JULY; A MIDSUMMERPUNK’S DREAM!

So June was pretty good, eh? We had some awesome shows from visitors The Scandals, Gab De La Vega, Andrew Jackson Jihad (video) and Hard Girls plus amazing local (read, Scottish) supports from Robot Doctors, Maxwell’s Dead (video), Salem Street, Lachance, Paper Rifles, Tragical History Tour, Terrafraid and The Murderburgers. Thanks to everyone who came out to the shows, all the staff at Buskers and Cerberus and everyone who continues to support us. It’s truly appreciated!

We released our latest record in June also in the form of new “Short-Brain” EP from The Fur Coats on beautiful green 7″ vinyl in collaboration with Drunken Sailor Records (UK) and Rad Girlfriend Records (US). The EP is available for streaming, purchase and digital download here and comes with full colour artwork from the wonderful WOLF MASK, digital download code and free MTAT stickers. The Fur Coats kick off their UK tour at Summerpunks in Dundee on Friday 17th July and tour down to Wonkfest in London on Saturday 25th July.

We also released Make Yer Ane Comp VI, a 42 track monster featuring bands from across the DIY universe. It’s up for free/pay-what-you-want download with PDF liner notes containing info/links to all the bands and labels. Please grab yourself a copy if you haven’t done so already. The other five MYAC volumes are also available for free download so please take a dig into the archives. Know your history!

Moving forward, July is shaping up to be an absolute blinder and it seems we may be literally melting by the end of it. There are countless amazing independent gigs, shows and festivals happening over the course of the month and we couldn’t possibly hope to list them all, but we’d actively encourage people to check out the shows from No One Knows Records, Struggletown Records, Not Another Wild Goat, Chaos Collective, Mind Ripper Collective and countless more across Scotland. Check the Scottish DIY page for more details.

room at the top 1007

Our first show of the month is our first show at Room at the Top on the Seagate in Dundee and it’s going to be an absolute belter with Kaddish, Bed Of Wasps, Lost Limbs, Shitgripper (EP Launch Show!) and Boak. We’re excited to be putting on a show in a new space and are super stoked for what should be a great night quality noisemongering. Tins For Tunes will be in operation to support Dundee Foodbank and we’ll also be hosting our first MTAT Book Swap, so feel free to bring some old books for trade.

The shows at RATT are 16+ and are wheelchair/disabled accessible and the venue is located above Kage and beside Out just across from the bus station. Gig-goers will also have free entry to the club night in Kage thereafter. Keep your eyes on the event page for any last minute details.

The following weekend sees us involved in a full weekender of punk rock goodness featuring The Murderburgers, The Fur Coats, Revenge of the Psychotronic Man and The Kimberly Steaks being joined by a plethora of other amazing bands across the weekend.

lethal lottery

Sunday 19th July; LETHAL LOTTERY at The Banshee Labyrinth, Edinburgh w/ The Lemonaids. By Lethal Lottery, we mean that the running order of bands will be decided by pot-luck on the day of the show and won’t be announced publicly, so make sure you’re down early to catch all of the bands. The Banshee is also tiny and is likely to be rammed so if ye wanna join the Capital City Rammy, then we’d advise grabbing an e-ticket.

Wrapping up the month for us is a show that’s something quite special for us and we’re absolutely delighted to welcome Japanese pop-punk legends NAVEL to Dundee to play what will be their first ever Scottish show. They’ll be joined on tour by 90s UK punk mainstays Skimmer, with whom they’ve just toured in Japan. This is a bill of great pedigree and we’re stoked to have Dundee’s finest The Shithawks joining us alongside the next generation of Dundee punks in The Sesh. Positive proof that punk rock is alive and well across three generations!

The poster for this show was done by our friend Tony T of Western Addiction / Cobra Skulls and we’d like to extend our gratitude for his doing so, thanks dude. The show is at RATT on Tuesday 21st July and should be a peach. Doors are at 7.30pm and it’s a fiver on doors.

This month we shall also be announcing more details for BOOK YER ANE FEST IX. If ye missed it, there are still some Earlybird Weekend Tickets left for £20 but there aren’t many so grab one quick. This is guaranteed the most cost-effective way of making sure ye can see over 50 acts across the weekend. Once the Earlybird tickets are gone, the next batch of tickets will be £25. For the full run down on BYAF, please check this post. Keep them peeled on the event page for details as they happen too.

Phew! It’s gonna get cosy!
